Bangor hunt points at Ballyclare

BANGOR travel to Ballyclare on Saturday for their third meeting with the Comrades this season looking to get back on track after that 1-4 debacle on Tuesday against Ballymoney United at Clandeboye Park.

Honours are even between Bangor and Saturday´s opponents with both teams boasting one win apiece. Bangor defeated their opponents 2-1 in the championship at Clandeboye Park on October 10 but it was a close run thing and it took two goals in the space of 38 seconds late in the second half from striker Andy McIntyre to snatch victory from the jaws of an inglorious defeat.

After a run of four games without defeat (three wins and a draw) it was back to earth with a bump for Bangor as they were soundly beaten by a lively Ballymoney United side at Clandeboye Park on Tuesday evening.

Two goals from striker Gerard Gillan (8 mins and 49 mins) and one apiece from playmaker David Nicholl (32) and Mark Gillan (78) against a late response from Bangor captain Andy Morrow (88) was a fair enough reflection of the game.

Bangor’s cause certainly wasn’t helped by the sending off of Dean Youle on 43 minutes.

Seasiders’ manager Colin McCurdy readily admitted that his team was second best after the match: "Ballymoney thoroughly deserved their win. They were up for the game while we gave a very poor performance. We failed to compete and they played with commitment and were able to close us down before we could create anything in their third of the pitch.

"To be honest, we simply didn’t deserve to get anything out of the game. It’s a matter now of putting the result and performance behind us and looking forward to the game on Saturday at Ballyclare. And we shall have to raise our game 100% if we are to come away with a positive result."
