A VULNERABLE Bangor pensioner, believed to be aged in her nineties, has been robbed of a substantial amount of cash, it has emerged this week.
At the time of going to press today (Thursday) a PSNI spokesperson said that enquiries into the incident were ongoing.
She said, "Police received a report of an incident in Balligan Gardens, Kilcooley, at around 10pm on Sunday, February 21, and enquiries are ongoing."
The Spectator understands a substantial amount of cash was stolen from the elderly woman who is believed to be particularly vulnerable.
The robbery has been widely condemned by elected representatives and the local community.
Reacting angrily to news that an elderly lady had been robbed in Kilcooley over the weekend, North Down MP Sylvia Hermon said, "I was extremely angry and shocked when I heard that a lady had been robbed of a substantial amount of money in her Kilcooley home at the weekend.
"Putting an elderly lady in her 90s through such a terrifying ordeal is outrageous and totally unacceptable behaviour. I cannot even begin to imagine the terrible fear and distress she must have experienced, and I sincerely trust she recovers fully from this dreadful experience."
Lady Sylvia continued, "Anyone who has the slightest bit of information that would lead to the apprehension of the culprit, or culprits, should immediately contact the local police. While we certainly don’t want any repetition of this sort of incident, we do want thieves arrested and brought promptly before the courts."
