A KNIFE wielding robber punched a shop assistant before making off with a sum of cash from a shop at Kilcooley Square last weekend (20th).Bangor detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the armed robbery at the Kilcooley Mace store, last Saturday at around 9pm, to come forward.
A PSNI spokeswoman told the Spectator that a male staff member had been locking up the convenience store when the robber approached him and kicked in the shop´s front door.
She said, "The male had a knife in his possession and threatened the staff member before punching him in the arm. The male made off with a sum of cash and quantity of cigarettes."
The male is described as being of stocky build and approximately 5ft 11in tall, and wore a dark coloured bomber type jacket, dark jeans and dark coloured trainers.
The armed robber wore a green and white striped hoody under his jacket that was pulled up over his head and face, and a dark coloured scarf also covered his face.
Speaking to the Spectator this week, shop owner Mark Ashe said jobs within the local community could be jeopardised if attacks against his staff continued.
He said that local residents ´did not deserve this´ and called on anyone with any information about the perpetrator to come forward to police.
