BANGOR will be looking to extend their winning run when they take on Carrick Rangers on Saturday at Clandeboye Park. That won’t be an easy task as Carrick - under manager Stephen Small - have, like Bangor, won their last two matches. Both those games were against local rivals Larne.
A SIX goal avalanche saw Bangor record their biggest win of the season last Saturday away to Banbridge Town.
The Seasiders actually went a goal down through a penalty on 12 minutes but a super Andy Rosbotham free kick on 24 minutes brought the scores level. Four minutes later Dom Melly headed home to give Bangor the lead at 2-1. It was even-steven again on 40 minutes but a great shot from the edge of the box in added time sent Bangor in at the break leading 3-2.
In the second half it was one-way traffic as Andy Morrow twice (48 and 61 minutes) and Dom Melly (68) turned the screw tighter with three more goals. Indeed Bangor could and should have added to their tally in the final 20 minutes, but it wasn’t to be.
Nevertheless, it was a very happy journey home for the goodly number of Bangor supporters who had enjoyed an excellent display and a convincing victor.
Manager Colin McCurdy: "I was extremely pleased with our performance at Banbridge. We played excellent football from start to finish and took advantage of the chances we created. The only criticism I would have is that we gave away two soft goals in the first half. In fact, they were probably the only two real chances that Banbridge created in the opening 45 minutes.
"Banbridge is a difficult place to come and win, and to play so well and win so convincingly is a big plus for us. Our new additions to the team are settling in and midfielders Colin White and Garth Scates both did their jobs well as we dominated the game. Dom Melly gives us an extra attacking dimension and allows Andy Morrow to come forward and look for goals - a role I have been encouraging him to adopt and which I think he is ideally suited for.
"All in all, a pleasing performance from a team which is rising to the challenge of proving itself in a difficult league."
