A DRIVE is on to stop a new homes development in Holywood town centre reaching something of a dead end - not once, but twice.
Residents of the Strand have already voiced concerns about a housing scheme which will bring the main route through their area to an abrupt end.
They have objected to the fact that the development, to be built by the Trinity Housing Association, will turn Strand Avenue into a cul-de-sac.
The avenue has been the main route through the 150 home Strand Housing Executive estate since it was built in the 1970s.
But now a second proposal has also stirred opposition among neighbours of the proposed new apartments for the elderly and family homes.
Residents of Saleen Park say plans to fence off the upper boundary of the development will cut off vehicular access to their homes.
This will not only stop their own cars but also important service vehicles, including bin lorries, oil tankers and the emergency services.
The residents´ case has been taken up with the developers by Holywood DUP councillor Gordon Dunne.
