Sisters are charity singing sensation

BANGOR singing sensations Caroline and Lindsay McLean raised over £1,000 for charity, thanks to a winning performance at Mencap´s Y Factor competition.

The talented sister act owned the stage with their memorable rendition of soul queen Aretha Franklin´s classic ´Sisters are doing it for themselves´.

The local singers made it all the way to the final sing off earning them the runner up spot in the Belfast Y Factor 2010 competition, held at The Empire Music Hall.

The fundraising singing competition proved to be a fantastic success raising in the region of £10,000 for Northern Ireland’s leading learning disability charity.

Caroline and Lindsay told the Spectator, "We were delighted to be involved with Belfast Y Factor, we had so much fun on stage and felt like rock stars when our screaming supporters hit the dance floor during our act. It’s been a real experience and so far we’ve raised over £1,000 for Mencap."

Mencap in Northern Ireland works in local communities with people with a learning disability and their families and carers, fighting to end discrimination and prejudice, and providing a range of advice, information and support services.

The charity advocates that a learning disability does not prevent someone from learning and achieving a lot in life, if given the right support.

Mencap enlisted budding singers from the business community to perform with a professional, live band in front of the judging panels. Friends, family and work colleagues came out to support each of the 12 acts and a fun-filled night was had by all.
