Vandals set ten bins ablaze

MINDLESS vandals set fire to a total of 10 wheelie bins across Kilcooley housing estate in Bangor last weekend.

The Spectator understands the bins were set alight in Innishargie Gardens, Drumawhey Gardens and Ardgheean Gardens, some time between late Friday (5th) night and the early hours of Saturday (6th) morning.

A PSNI spokesperson said police believe a number of males were involved in the late night vandalism spree and that a bicycle was used.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson said two fire appliances from Bangor station tackled the wheelie-bin fires in the Bangor estate.

She said, "The first call to NIFRS was received at 01.53 hours. While at the original call they were redirected to other bins on fire in different parts of the estate. In Drumawhey Gardens heat damage was caused to flats."

Police are appealing for anyone who was in any of those areas late, and who witnessed the bins being set on fire or saw anything suspicious, to come forward.
