Veteran British actor drops anchor in Bangor

VETERAN television actor Timothy Spall thrilled his fans when his converted Dutch barge weighed anchor at Bangor Marina last week.

Together with his wife Shane, Timothy was happy to take time out from his busy schedule to tell the Spectator how much he enjoyed ‘charming’ Bangor by the sea.

The couple’s mini odyssey ‘Somewhere at Sea’ saw them sail from Cornwall to south Wales in their barge the Princess Matilda. Their journey was made into a three part documentary series broadcast on the BBC last May.

Timothy and Shane docked in Bangor Marina aboard their converted barge, which boasts well stocked bookshelves and a cosy wood burner stove, while Timothy worked in Belfast.

During their stay in Bangor, Timothy and Shane enjoyed sampling the local cuisine as well as shopping in the town centre.

Writing on their internet blog Shane wrote, “We could happily winter in Bangor (County Down) one of the nicest marinas we’ve moored in, but it’s only July.
