Flyover death man handcuffed self

A BANGOR man found hanging from the Springhill flyover last year handcuffed his own hands behind his back before taking his own life, a court has heard.

The town was shocked by the violent death of Timothy Francis Cheng (41), of Orlock Gardens, Kilcooley, who was found hanging from the A2 dual carriageway flyover at Springhill in the early hours of October 31 last year.

At an inquest into his suicide last Wednesday (7th) a coroner’s court in Belfast was told that Mr Cheng had a history of paranoid schizophrenia and had previously threatened to kill himself.

The court heard that the 41 year old’s body was found by an off-duty policeman who was traveling on the A2 at around 7.45am last Hallowe’en. The officer called it in, noticing that Mr Cheng’s hands were handcuffed behind his back.

The deceased’s mother had independently contacted police the same day, after his brother reported that the 41 year old had not returned home and a length of rope was missing.
