Summer spruce up for seafront eyesore

BANGOR’S derelict seafront is getting a summer make-over in a bid to breathe new life into the promenade.

Passersby were bemused to see workmen power washing the grimy derelict buildings along Queen’s Parade last Sunday (4th) morning.

The once charming seafront has fallen into a state of dereliction over the past 10 years as various redevelopment schemes have failed to materialise at the site, which is owned by a private developer.

Radically modified plans for the £70 million Marine Gardens blueprint are set to be unveiled by the Department for Social Development (DSD) which is heavily involved in trying to bring the development to fruition.

Earlier last month the Spectator revealed that proposals for towering apartment blocks on the seaward side of the development have now been scrapped.

However the Spectator understands that construction work will not begin on the site for another couple of years.
